Akie is clearly connected to the stone as she brings it completely to life. She says that she paints the living spirit that she feels inside the stone.

When she is on the hunt for stones for her designs, she looks for the shapes that will best complement her creations.

Another interesting fact is that Akie will never cut off edges of a stone when making her design. The rock remains in its organic form, something she is very passionate about.

“When I find a stone, I feel that stone has found me too. Stones have their own intentions, and I consider my encounters with them as cues they give me it’s OK to go ahead and paint what I see on them.” – Akie Nakata, Artist.

To Akie, every stone has a story just waiting to be discovered. The sizes that she selects sit perfectly in the palm of your hand.

This allows you to get up close and personal and admire the many details that she includes.

Akie will often talk to her stones as she paints, so is the connection between Artist and nature.

Akie breathes life and lifts the personality to the surface. Her gift of visualization is evident in every creation.

Akie takes special care to ensure that every aspect of her design is just right. The backbone has to be in the exact right position. It is her immense care that gives such a realistic look.

Akie treads carefully she describes her painting as a dialogue with the stone. It is almost as if the stone picks Akie, not the other way round.

Akie paints the eyes at the very end. Only then does she consider that her design is fully complete.

It is clear that she gets much joy out of seeing life in the eyes staring back at her.

As you can see from the photos above, the detail and realism are breathtaking.
