What You Need To Know About HE Washers

This infographic from Proctor & Gamble shows some of the benefits of using an HE washing machine. As you can see, there’s a considerable upside. They do however, require a certain type of detergent and a very specific amount. Here is what you need to know according to P&G:

High-Efficiency machines use just one-third the water and use up to 50% less energy than a traditional top-loader. You’ll be using fewer resources AND saving money in the process.

HE Washers have a drum size up to 40% bigger. That means a lot more laundry can be done in one load.

Using the right type of detergent is super important. Using a non-HE detergent in your washer can add extra rinse cycles to the loads.

Although a regular load saves a ton of water, additional rinse cycles can add a ton more! Extra rinse cycles will cost you up to 10 gallons more water, meaning your water heater works harder.

Getting The Most Out Of Your HE Washer

Once you make the leap and buy an HE washer, you may appreciate these handy tips that will ensure that you get the very most out of your machine.

Be sure to keep your HE machine extra clean If dirt and the extra detergent residue is hanging around your washer, it will treat every load you put in as being extremely dirty. It’s not complicated to keep clean though – just wipe the door and opening down with a damp cloth and run the cleaning cycle once per week.

ALWAYS use the right amount of detergent, and be sure to use HE detergent. Follow the directions on your detergent’s bottle and don’t go overboard.

Adding too much detergent can not only cause your laundry to look starchy and dull, it can ruin your machine over time.

Invest in a good sorting hamper. Have a section for each type of laundry load so you don’t need to spend too much time sorting.

End the endless laundry inspections! Keep a stain removal stick on the hamper where your family tosses dirty clothes. This way they can treat their stains before you toss them in the washer. This will keep clothes cleaner and save you time inspecting for stains.
