Best Mongolian Beef Ingredients

  • 500g rump Steak (17.6oz) thinly sliced across the grain
  • 1/4 cup cornflour
  • 2 large onions, peeled, quartered, then each quarter halved again.
  • 1 green capsicum/bell pepper, roughly diced
  • 4 freshly diced garlic cloves
  • 1 1/2” piece of fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust up or down to taste)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup low salt soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 1/4 cup oil to fry beef
  • 1 Tablespoon cornflour mixed with water
  • Cooked steamed white rice to serve
  • Fresh chili slices and chopped spring onion to garnish

How To Make Best Mongolian Beef Recipe

As mentioned earlier, this recipe cooks up very quickly. Gail suggests that you have all your ingredients on hand so that you are good to go!

Place sliced meat in a bowl and add 1/4 cup cornflour, mix with your hands to coat the meat with the flour.

Set aside. In a bowl, add sugar, soy, chili powder, and water.

Heat oil in a wok or deep fry pan.

Add meat in batches, separating strips as you go. Allow to brown and crisp slightly then remove to a plate.

Continue until all meat is cooked. Drain off most of the oil.

Return pan to the heat. Next, add garlic and ginger, fry until fragrant, but don’t burn.

Saute’ your onion and cook 2-3 minutes.

Add in your soy mixture and cook until reduced and slightly thickened.

Return meat to the pan and add capsicum/bell pepper.

Stir to ensure both are coated well,

Add the cornflour slurry, stirring until sauce begins to thicken.

Simmer gently for 5 mins.

Serve with rice, garnish with chili and spring onions. Enjoy!
