We know you will fall for all the amazing handmade knits from Karen Fudge Baby Love and you’ll love the story behind it too!
From the knitted monogrammed baby hats to the easy-wear mittens and baby blankets, each piece is made by loving hands from an artist who gave up everything to live her best life.
When Karen was just 12 years old, her grandmother Flossie taught her to knit. Little did she know she was teaching her granddaughter a skill that would help her build an incredible business someday!
Fast forward to when Karen became a grandmother herself and couldn’t wait to knit for her daughter’s twins, “I had made them so much stuff they couldn’t wear it all!” Karen told us.
Selling all of the adorable garments you see on this page, the Karen Fudge Baby Love Etsy Shop’s knits are all handmade with Karen and her family’s loving hands.
She sells knit baby hats of all sorts, like the sweet Monogrammed Baby Hats above, personalized with any name, and the no-fuss thumbless mittens that slip easily onto baby’s little hands.
When Karen first started selling her items, she and her husband had been contemplating when to retire. Their dream was to live on a sailboat together and somehow make it work financially. It’s a dream they had been talking about for years.
At the time Karen owned a successful real estate business, which was not easy to let go of. One day they just decided to give it a go!
“We were sitting having dinner at home looking out at a raging snow storm. We said ‘what are we waiting for?’
When is money ever enough? The answer is never! Time just slips away. As we were healthy, we thought “let’s just do this!”
“My philosophy is simple,” Karen says, “Take life one day at a time and spend life doing something you love!”
“Life is too short to do anything else!”
As you can tell by the perfect stitching and care that goes into her handmade garments, it’s a philosophy that Karen truly sticks to.
The couple’s home was listed for sale and they decided what to keep. They gave their kids precious family photos for safekeeping. If Karen and her husband believed in good signs, then this was one. Their home sold in less than one month and the buyers wanted a quick closing. The rest, as they say, is history!
Of course, the first thing Karen loaded onto their boat was her yarn stash, “bags of it” she told us. She began to knit as they sailed. All the while drinking in the fresh air and perfect view.
Her husband would take her orders to the post office on his bicycle, and they would always be ready in less than 48 hours. “This lifestyle may not be for everyone but it was the right choice for us!”
Karen at the wheel of her floating home
We sail up to Mattapoisett, Massachusetts every spring and stay there so we can visit with family and friends, but come September we are heading south again.
It’s a great life and I am with my best friend, the love of my life!”
Karen’s knit and crochet creations speak for themselves. They are handmade, artisan pieces, made with snuggly yarns for babies like cotton and soft acrylic.
Every piece is made by Karen herself and sometimes with the help of family and friends when orders are piling up.
Here’s her Dad who make the pom-poms for some of her hats. He’s affectionately known as the ‘Pom-Pom Man’.
Karen has shown that it’s never too late to take the wheel of your life and head in a direction that you love. She has shown enormous faith and courage and it is paying off.
She has thousands of sales under her belt plus she has over 2000 reviews with an average 5-star rating. She has turned her passion into profit and picked up a dream lifestyle in the process.
