You’ll be amazed how easy it is to grow Zucchini and they don’t have to take over your garden space. There are a number of popular ways to grow them including on a Trellis or Vertical frame.

Today, we are going to show you how to grow them from seeds in containers and you will soon be harvesting your own fresh and delicious squash. We have some clever hacks for dealing with potential powdery mildew on your leaves too.

Let’s start with these Zucchini growing tips from A Healthy Life For Me. It’s important that your zucchini is planted in an area where it will receive at least 10 hours of direct sunlight daily.

Your soil should have a Ph in the 6-7 range. The process of growing Zucchini from seeds allows you to get a jump on the traditional growing season. You can start your seeds indoors and keep inside for 4-6 weeks prior to planting in your garden. You want to ensure that all chances of frost have passed.

Once you have successfully planted your seedlings, mulching around your plants will assist with water retention and it will help to keep the soil stable. These 2 key elements are very important especially if you want to be rewarded with a bountiful crop earlier.

oticAnother good piece of advice is to ensure that your Zucchini Plants are watered each week. 2 inches is recommended and use a soaker hose. We discovered that if you use a sprinkler the plants may develop a powdery type of mildew. This is not what you want, so be careful to water below the leaves.

The above watering hack from Listotic can also be used for any vegetable in your garden. They suggest planting your seeds around an empty plastic pot for deeper root watering.

If your plants are affected by powdery spots, the leaves may turn brown. According to Amy of A Healthy life for Me she has a great remedy for this Powdery Mildew.

She suggests an organic remedy that uses Cows Milk. “Mix 1 part milk with 9 parts water and spray the stems and tops of leaves with the solution. Reapply after rain.

She also says you can try to prevent Powdery Mildew by spraying leaves with a mix of 1 teaspoon baking soda in 1-quart water. This raises the pH, creating an unwelcoming environment for powdery mildew” – speaking of PH levels Zucchinis should have a soil PH in the order of 6-7. You should also harvest when the plants are small if you want a more flavorful zucchini.

Since they don’t hold their flavour for long, you should use them within a week of harvesting. Store them in the fridge until use.
