Make your own Self Watering Seedling Pots using Plastic Bottles. They’re great for growing herbs , particularly in the cooler months.
The kids will love to help with this DIY and it teaches them about recycling. This is so clever and inexpensive and saves landfill.
Let’s take a closer look at the Tutorial. Now that you are sold on this great idea and ready to make one, you are going to need a few simple items .. you will love the results.
Start with a 2 Litre Plastic Bottle, you will need some decent potting soil and your favorite seeds. You’ll also need some string or very thick yarn for this project.
The only tools you will need will be a knife, screwdriver, and a hammer. Start by slicing the bottle in half. Next, you will pop the top section of the bottle upside down as shown in the photo below.

It will fit nicely into the bottom section of the bottle. Now you have a chamber-like environment for your plant which allows the moisture to condense. Clever, right!
Next, thread through the hole that you have created in the bottle cap. This will draw additional moisture. It acts like a candle wick. The best part, as soil dries out, more water is sucked up the string.
